A biographical note 

Date and place of birth: 22 September 1951, Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

Education: B.Sc. (University of Zagreb), M.Sc. (University of Sarajevo), Ph.D. (University of Mostar) degrees in Economics and International Economics.

Post-doctoral studies and advanced research programmes: Milan ( Universita' Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, SDA Bocconi), Venice ( Universita' Ca' Foscari di Venezia), Zaragoza ( Mediterranean Agronomic Institute / International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies - ICAMAS).

Fields of academic/research interest: International Marketing/Business and International Economics; Agricultural Trade Issues and the World Trade Organization (WTO); EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP); Economic and Trade aspects of European integration and the EU eastward enlargement; Globalization issues, etc. Has published extensively in the above mentioned fields.

Other fields of interest: Globalization and internationalization of the university; The Bologna Process and its implications for the European higher education system, etc.

Rector ad interim, University of Mostar, 2000-2001.

Founding Head of the International Relations Office (1994-1998), Rector's Delegate (1998-2000), and Vice Rector (2000-2007) for International Relations and Scientific Research , University of Mostar. In his capacity as Acting Rector and  Vice Rector, Prof. Šuman has represented the University of Mostar on many occasions at international meetings and conferences on a broad spectrum of academic and related affairs.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina,1999-2000.

Deputy Head of the Delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Seattle WTO Ministerial Conference, 30 November - 3 December 1999.

Head of the BiH Delegation to the Central European Initiative (CEI) Summit Economic Forum, Prague, November 1999.

President of the BiH's National Steering Committee for the 2000 World Exposition EXPO 2000 in Hanover, Germany, and concurrently Commissioner General of the BiH's Section at EXPO 2000 ; appointed by the Council of Ministers (Government) of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Member of the Higher Education Coordination Board in Bosnia and Herzegovina (HECB), 2000-2001.

Prior to his academic career, he held executive positions at leading export-import and research companies/institutes in the agro-food sector.
